The residents of Épinay-sous-Sénart had been eagerly awaiting it, and it is now finally accessible to everyone. The town’s cultural center, named after Oscar-winning actress Déborah Lukumuena, opened its doors on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
For this high-profile event, it was impossible for the public and the cameras to miss the impressive installation placed outside the entrance: a large, designer water mirror topped with the acronym “MAC” and the inscription “Maison des Arts et de la Culture Épinay-sous-Sénart.”
What is a water mirror?
A water mirror is a still, shallow body of water built with a glossy black base. Once filled with about 5 centimeters of water, it has the remarkable ability to reflect the sky and the building in front of it. Even with such a shallow water level, the water mirror creates the illusion of great depth. This visual effect is made possible by the dark base used by Odzo, specialist in water wall design. While it gives the impression of infinity, the low water level ensures complete safety for the public.
In line with its commitment to environmental preservation, Odzo equipped this installation with a filtration system that recycles the water. A large rainwater collection tank was buried near the mirror, allowing the water-level regulator to easily draw reclaimed water. As a result, the installation can maintain the correct water level while remaining fully self-sufficient.
